Public Annex Community Agreement - Expanded Version
1. Respect our bodies and the bodies of others
This includes extensions of bodies such as wheelchairs, other mobility devices and sometimes artwork. We have a culture of questions and consent. Consent meaning an agreement between people involved.
2. Respect tools, equipment, and supplies
We love to reuse materials and tools! We love to save money and resources! We are grateful for the tools, equipment, and supplies we have and we use them gently so they can be used by others in the future.
3. Create a space of equality where everyone is an artist and a teacher
In our space we work to eliminate hierarchies often enforced in society - student/teacher, staff/client, volunteer/participant, disabled/able-bodied/neurotypical. In our space, everyone is valued for their unique contributions and we all learn from each other.
4. Be careful with our words while practicing acceptance and compassion
Language is powerful. In our space we use the language of disability rights activists and compassionate humans. We respect everyone’s identities with our words and actions. We ask questions respectfully and are working on creating a more inclusive space with the words we use.
5. There are many ways to do one thing, there is never one way to do something
Ideas of right and wrong do not thrive in our space. We acknowledge the spectrum of possibilities in everything and everyone.
*The Public Annex community agreement is how we create, implement, and ensure safer spaces at all Public Annex art classes, farm programs, exhibitions, residencies, fundraising events, and other happenings of all kinds coordinated by Public Annex.
